Sew Mama Sew has put out the call for some sewing machine meme’s (whatever that means. I’m not sure what a meme actually is, but I’m just going to roll with it). So, I thought I’d add in my two cents on my machine. I own this pretty lady.

This lady is a Baby Lock Decorator’s Choice Model BLDC2. I have had it for going on 2 glorious years. It costs around $800 or at least it did 2 years ago. Hmmm…. let’s see. I started sewing just bags with it. I have since sewn all sorts of other do dads and such. Pillows, curtains (although… never again, I tell you… NEVER), softies, clothes… whatever happens to tickle my fancy. I sew about 3 to 4 days out of the week. Sometime more… sometimes less (booo!) It gets a lot of use, I’d say. I love her. I mean really, I do. She and I have had words from time to time, but usually it ends up being my fault and then I have to apologize and promise to be better next time. Really, I don’t have any complaints. She has been good to me. I am able to let the feed dogs down when I need to… she has sewn through some crazy thick material with no real fuss. Overall, it is a happy marriage. She doesn’t have a name, but I think she totally needs one. Hmmm…. any suggestions? I always think of her as a “her” so I guess she needs a girlie name. Maybe Susie or Fran or how about Mable? Hmmm…. I guess I will have to think about that one. Ok, next question… the features I love most about the machine are the decorative stitches, of which there are many; all the feet that come with it… very nice. I also love that it seems to work well with most fabrics and heavy fabrics. I use a lot of heavy fabrics with my bags and she does fantastic. The only thing that drives me nuts (and it is totally not her fault) is having to unthread it in order to make a bobbin. I totally need one of those side winder thingy mabobs. The cool thing about getting the machine is that I got this fantastic job making designer handbags and I needed a new sewing machine pronto, but didn’t have the funds. My sweet brother gave me the money and even went with me to the quilt shop to get it (so not his kind of place)! I paid him back, but it was sweet of him to loan me the money for it. I would totally recommend it to anyone out there needing a good machine to get it all done. She works really well. I am pleased with my choice, for sure. The things that have really made a difference for me after my last machine (mini Kenmore) are the drop in bobbin (HELLO… life saver!), automatic treader, stitch options, and the ability to drop the feed dogs. Very nice features! Don’t really have a dream machine… mine is pretty great and it keeps me happy, although I would love to get an embroidery machine and a serger. Yum! One day.
So, that is about it. Hope you find this little ditty helpful. Happy sewing!
Oh, and I promised a picture of my little one in her crown. Here it is… so cute!

I am putting a vote in for the name of the sewing machine: Beulah, Lucy or Trixie. When you suggested, “Mable,” were you thinking of your future daughter-in-law?

I am having a problem with my Baby Lock Ellure. Every once in awhile – like maybe every 15 inches, it leaves a loop on the underside. This is very irritating. I had it serviced for $100 and they said they thought it was a burr and filed it down. It still does it.
Is it a lemon?
Have you ever had a problem with the bobbin locking up on your Decorator’s Choice?
